Late last year we reported on a persistent power consumption bug that caused high power usage when idling in a refresh rate above 120Hz. NVIDIA had fixed the issue for users with single G-Sync monitors in their version 361.43 drivers, but for those with a multi monitor setup the issue did not stop.
Now NVIDIA’s version 372.54 driver has been rolled out to address specifically this issue, claiming that they “enabled mclk switches on 144 Hz G-SYNC monitors in multi-monitor use cases in order to lower power consumption.”
Numerous users are reporting that the driver update has fixed the problem and testing has revealed it is indeed repaired. Among other things, the driver update also has optimizations for many games including No Man’s Sky, Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, Obduction, and F1 2016.
