The new successor to the ASUS VG248QE has finally come to fruition. The ASUS VG278HV has been announced by ASUS with similar specs but with a larger 27 inch display. It offers a 1920 x 1080 resolution which when coupled with 27 inch size results in a decrease of pixel density. The monitor maintains its TN panel technology with the typical 1ms response time and continues to support a 144Hz refresh rate. Other specs of the VG278HV are in line with what is currently out there in the market including a 300 cd/m2 maximum brightness, a 1000:1 static contrast ratio, and a 170/160 viewing angle.
New to this monitor is ASUS’s Splendid Video Intelligence Technology which offers a better color experience. The stand itself is fully ergonomic stand letting the user make easy tilt, swivel, height and pivot adjustments. The 144Hz gaming monitor includes connections for D-SUB/VGA, DVI, and HDMI 1.4. Noticeably lacking, however, is a DisplayPort input. An added bonus are the 3W stereo speakers, but these are more of a novelty than anything. Like its predecessor the ASUS VG278HV still lacks NVIDIA’s G-Sync and AMD’s FreeSync technology. The result is a rather lackluster monitor which falls short of providing the user with a good pixel density or adaptive sync. If these two aren’t a concern for you and your primary need a high refresh rate monitor than the ASUS VG278HV can still suffice for competitive gaming.
