The new ASUS ROG Swift PG279Q is the latest addition to the Republic of Gamers (ROG) lineup. The monitor is the successor of the original ASUS ROG Swift PG278Q 144Hz monitor. A welcome change is the fact that its predecessor’s TN panel has been replaced with the ever more popular and better IPS panel. It remains the same resolution and size, but what makes it special is the fact is that it’s the world’s first 165Hz monitor and a 21Hz increase from its previous version. In fact, this gaming monitor goes one further and allows users to select from 60Hz, 120Hz, or 165Hz refresh rates on the fly even while in-game.
The gaming monitor features a wide 178-degree viewing angle and in case that isn’t enough it’s very customizable as it has an ergonomic stand that allows for its tilt, swivel, pivot, and height to be changed to your liking. The monitor’s controls are unique and tactile since the last thing you want be doing is pressing the wrong button or fiddling in the menus for the refresh rate. This ASUS monitor lets you do it quickly with its dedicated Hz toggle button.
The PG279Q has a very attractive look and leaves quite an impression with its red LED stand, but let’s take a look under the surface. The non-glare IPS display sports a 4ms response time and has a respectable contrast ratio of 1000:1. The monitor includes NVIDIA G-Sync technology allowing you to have the smoothest gameplay possible. One drawback however is the fact that in order to run the 2560 x 1440 resolution at 165Hz you will require a NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960 graphics card or better. The PG279Q has two 2W speakers if you want to take a break from those headphones. Connection options include an HDMI 1.4 port, a DisplayPort 1.2 port, and two USB 3.0 ports.
