Acer XZ350CU: 144Hz 35-inch VA FreeSync Gaming Monitor

The Acer XZ350CU 144Hz gaming monitor is soon to make an arrival this December with a cost of $999. The monitor measures 35 inches and has a 2560 x 1080 resolution. The monitor has a VA panel as opposed to the IPS and TN panels that we typically see nowadays. A feature that will be adored by some and hated by others is its curved display. Included in the gaming monitor is AMD’s FreeSync which help deal with any stutters you would otherwise run into.

The rest of the specs that the XZ350CU has to offer are mostly nothing unusual. It has an advertised 4ms response time and 300 cd/m² maximum brightness. This gaming monitor’s backlight does not use pulse width modulation (PWM) which helps avoid flickering. Also included is the increasingly popular inclusion of speakers which in this case has two 9W DTS stereo speakers. The fact that these are DTS (Digital Theater Systems) speakers will allow to you have a richer experience with than you otherwise would with regular integrated speakers. While not better than dedicated external speakers we think this will be a welcome feature for most users wanting to take a break from the headphones.

The monitor is very similar to its Acer Predator Z35 cousin, but there are a few important differences. The first being that the XZ350CU monitor’s maximum refresh rate is 144Hz while the Z35 can manage a whopping 200Hz. Also different is the adaptive sync technology included. The XZ350CU makes use of AMD’s FreeSync while the Z35 uses NVIDIA’s G-Sync. Because of this will the Z35 has a significantly higher price tag as G-Sync requires an integrated module to be present. There’s no word on the monitor’s contrast ratio, but if the Z35 is anything to go the XZ350CU will likely have 3000:1 ratio.
