Acer Predator Z35: 200Hz 35-inch VA G-Sync Gaming Monitor

The Acer Predator Z35 marks a break from our typical updates on 144Hz monitors and makes it the only 200Hz monitor currently on the market. It measures a whopping 35 inches and has a 2560 x 1080 (21:9) resolution to go with it. Its enormous size makes it the largest 120Hz-plus monitor to date. This gaming monitor is equipped with NVIDIA’S G-Sync which to control dips in framerates and deliver a smooth and stable image experience. Also included is NVIDIA’s Ultra Low Motion Blur technology which helps to make the image clearer and sharper. Another addition to the Acer Z35 is that it has GameView technology which allows you to quickly adjust brightness levels, change color settings, and add crosshairs overlays with profile presets that you can customize and change with a click of a button.

Something not usually seen in the high refresh rate monitor market is the Z35’s VA panel. Instead of going with an IPS or TN panel that manufacturers typically go with, Acer has decided to use VA panel technology which can be described as in-between in terms of quality. The company has also decided to give this ultra widescreen a curved experience and, as a result, lets you have a great immersive field of view wherever you happen to be looking while gaming. Stylistically speaking it’s a very sleek looking monitor and certainly matches its “predator” nickname. It even features a LED underglow that you customize to your liking.

Whenever looking at a monitor’s resolution be sure to keep in mind its total pixel density. In the case of the Acer Z35 you have a 2560 x 1080 resolution to accompany those 35 inches. This gives you 79 pixels per inch (PPI) and if you compare that to the 92 PPI that 24-inch monitors and the 109 PPI that 27-inch monitors typically have then your not looking at the most optimal picture quality. For the most optimal results one would like to have seen an increase in resolution to accompany the size, but note that with an increase in resolution you’ll need a more powerful graphics card to run games with it.

You’re missing the point, this monitor is all about the hertz and not the resolution. A higher resolution would have dropped the framerates as you can only pass a certain amount of data through Displayport 1.2. Acer X34 is the screen you want if you’re looking for resolutiion, not the Z35. Also, the Z35’s PPI is nearly identical to that of a 1080p 27″ 16:9monitor.

I ended up getting the Z35, not because of the speed, but because of the tighter curve, exceptional amva blacks, and the easier-to-drive resolution. Can’t wait to get mine!
