Acer Predator Z301C: 200Hz 30-inch G-Sync VA Gaming Monitor

Acer Predator Z301C review

In yet another addition to its Predator gaming monitor lineup Acer has revealed the Acer Predator Z301C gaming monitor. The 30-inch 2560 x 1080 gaming monitor accompanies the Acer Predator Z271 and the Acer Predator Z321Q as newcomers. A common theme for all these monitors are their inclusion of curved displays and speakers. All of them also feature Acer’s ever expanding VisualCare technologies:

  • Acer Flicker-less technology which as the names implies removes screen flickering
  • BlueLightShield which minimizes blue light and as a result decreases eye strain
  • ComfyView which features a matte TFT screen and reduces glare

The key feature of the Acer Predator Z301C is its 200Hz refresh rate which achieved through overclocking. This makes it one of two 200Hz monitors currently out there, the other being the Acer Predator Z35. The Predator Z301 sports a VA panel, a technology that is commonly seen in the Predator line, but not among high refresh rate monitors in general. The panel sets apart from the IPS and TN panels that most monitors have and provides it with the advantage of better contrast and image depth. The monitor has an advertised 4ms response time so it’s slower than TN panels and around the speed of IPS panels. A setback in this monitor and others like it at this size and resolution is its pixel density of 79 pixels per inch.

The monitor includes NVIDIA G-Sync technology which helps eliminate any screen tearing and stuttering you may experience while gaming. In addition the monitor also supports a 3D display mode. The monitor has a rather extreme curvature of 1800R. This is something that’s sure to be a divisive spec for potential buyers though many prefer these types due to increased viewability in gaming.

Aesthetically speaking the monitor is simply beautiful and has a ridiculously sturdy aluminum stand. Everything about the monitor speaks premium. Ergonomically, the height, the tilt, and the swivel are all adjustable. A cable management hole is also present enabling you to neatly organize all your cables.

Other details on the monitor are scarce at the moment. There’s no word yet on possible pricing or release date.
