Acer Predator XG270HU: 144Hz 27-inch FreeSync TN Gaming Monitor

The Acer Predator XG270HU is one of Acer’s most popular monitors in their Predator lineup. The 27-inch 144Hz gaming monitor has a WQHD display resolution of 2560 x 1440 pixels in a 16:9 aspect ratio. This combination of size and resolution gives us a very good pixel density of 109 pixels per inch. It has a color depth of 16.7 million, a brightness of 350cd/m², and a 1000:1 static contrast ratio. The monitor has a TN panel with a 1ms respond time which when coupled with an input lag of 5ms provides the smoothest gaming experience without ghosting effect or smearing.

Another feature that helps provide the best gameplay possible is AMD FreeSync technology that will eliminate image tears and choppiness, but you can only use it over DisplayPort and with a compatible AMD graphics card. The supported dynamic refresh rate range on this monitor is from 40Hz to 144Hz. We should note that a pricier alternative, the Acer Predator XB270HU, has similar specs, but includes NVIDIA’s G-Sync and an IPS panel instead.

One thing that the Acer Predator XG270HU does not have is a blur reduction mode because it is not a feature of FreeSync and Acer did not add their own like BenQ did to the XL2730Z. One important thing that Acer did add to the monitor was various EyeProtect technologies that reduce eyestrain for users that spend a lot of time in front of the screen. This includes flicker-less technology, low-dimming, blue light filtering and ComfyView.

The XG270HU has a borderless design with a very thin bezel that Acer calls “Zero Frame”. This makes it good for use in a multi-monitor setup. The monitor has a nice amount of connectivity options and includes inputs for DVI, DisplayPort, and HDMI 2.0 which allows increased frame rates at high resolutions than the older 1.4 version. Cables are included for DVI and DisyplayPort. In terms of adjustability and ergonomics, this monitor is very limited as the stand only allows you to tilt the screen and there is no support for VESA mount compatibility.

The included power cable has an external AC/DC converter so the monitor doesn’t overheat. It also has a headphone-out and an audio-in port, but no USB ports, which limits you in terms of connecting any extras. The monitor also has two 2-watt integrated speakers. You can adjust both your speaker and headphone volume via the OSD. The on-screen display is controlled by the five buttons that are located on the bottom right side and are quite stiff so when you are using them the monitor wobbles a lot. Some of the preset picture modes that you can switch to are Standard, User, ECO, Movie and Graphic.
